Yep, 10.45 here, and the heat is already blasting…
Woke up yesterday at 8.00 in my tent cos of that bloody heat, my tent was in the sun and I felt scorched. Well, been scorched all weekend, but no matter what Randall or Grimlach may say, it was a hell of a weekend 🙂

I admit, it’s seriously different from what other lives may be, but then again, the Walloons have a totally different notion of roleplaying. We try to get them to roleplay, and they’re not used to it. To them a weekend like this is hanging out, drinking, and occasionally bashing. And cheating a lot ! Honour, honesty and worthiness don’t mean much to them… Weird, cos most of our characters would gladly die if their honour were challenged !

Anyway, I arrived on saturday round noon (since Bart had mentally broke down on friday and needed me with him; took him to the live, he really needed a break) and even before I got checked in and changed, my band of Amazons had already seen me, cheered, and given me my captain’s tokens. 🙂
So we started on accompanying (I mean the group of Amazons) our Baron to the Guilds’ Village, where you could have all the roleplay you wanted (been there, tried anything, Randall, Grimlach ???). Problem was: if I wanted to gain levels in the Arms’ Guild, I had to fulfill some missions and militia’s, and I just had no time for that !! We had tower and castle guard from 4 till 8 PM, in the scorching heat! Luckily the tower had four stores, so only the upper one was in the sun. Me as a captain, I took my responsibility and stayed up there for four hours. I was wearing tons of sunmilk, and my steel bra. Man, if I had been a breast feeding mother, the milk certainly would have been sterile, it was cooked !

After 8 I tried to eat a little, then there was the mass for Elena: fucking good one, since we gained sth from the Guild of Rituals, and then there was a captains’ meeting, to discuss strategie and things. So afterwards we waited a little for our ambassadors to come back, quarreled a little with some other factions, killed some Chardons, helped out the Scorpions, were under attack, and so on. I also managed to speak to Grand Master Achim again, the Master of the Guild of Knowledge, to find out what he wanted me to do for my second level of Medicine. Turned out it was lots, and I wouldn’t have the time anymore for all of it, but with a lot of help from others in the base camp, we managed to make a swell brancard and a neat hospital, which gained us a lot of credit.
By then I was exhausted, and I sat by the campfire, talking, singing, having fun, till 4 am.
Needed to get up at 7 for a general assault on the Chardons’ castle, only woke an hour later, so I manned the tower. Assault didn’t work, since there was no one in the castle; and we didn’t bring our siege weapons. Was fun tho !
Round 1 pm finally came the end battle, in an open field in the scorching sun. We all had been ordered to wear sth on our heads, and to bring lots of water. We had to perform a ritual, but our adversaries would want to keep us from that, so… The fighters, ours and our allies, got in line, forming a shield wall. I was behind that, shooting arrows, and I’m proud I did manage to hit quite a few ! Then I grabbed my pole and tried to hit people from behind the shields, but eventually we got run over, cos they’re so used to this kind of fighting, and man, they’re just plain good !!! The ritual was performed successfully tho, so in a way, even tho we got nearly all killed, we won !

Oh, and one major other thing: we managed to kill off for good that bloody blasted cheater of a Dark Elf !!!!!! We executed him, so he’s gone permanently ! YAY ! Was reason for a party in the castle, believe me !!!!!

Was a great weekend, to my opinion, and about 140 people of our faction do share that opinion (out of 150). Pity some didn’t like it, but if you start out by saying: ‘I don’t feel like it, I’d rather stay home, it will suck, we’ll have our BBQ there and then return, cos it will suck big time’, well… What do you expect ?

Gonna do some work now, if I manage, that is, in this heat. We’re not used to this, and nearly no houses do have airconditioning here 🙁

Didn’t feel like updating in the first place, since glod, my sweety, nearly said it all already… But I just want to tell my wonderful week.

Poor guy arrived here in Belgium on Sunday a week ago, the very day I got surgery, so my beloved husband was so sweet to pick him up at the airport. Aren’t those two the greatest ? Gotta love them !
As I didn’t feel too great for a couple of days, we didn’t do much on monday and tuesday… He knew that on beforehand, but didn’t mind, since all he really wanted was being close to me. So missed that guy the last months…

I wanted us to go to Paris for his birthday, but my cycle had decided otherwise: I needed to go back to the hospital to get the fertilized eggs implanted that day, so no Paris for us 🙁 Oh well, gonna do it some other day then, no biggie.
We met with Faust en went for lunch, so there I was at a table in a restaurant, surrounded by my three guys, chatting away. Felt so good 🙂 None of them has a problem with it, and that is just something beyound expectation ! At a certain moment I said ‘schat’ (the Dutch word for honey), and both Bart and Faust looked up from their plate and said ‘yes ?’ . I started to laugh, and Faust said: ‘Well, if you had said it in English, we might all three have answered…’ Made me blush, but also glow inside… Happy girl, me.
Bart had to leave for work, so Faust, Glod and I went for coffee. After a couple of hours, Faust was on his way too, and Glod and I went for a long walk around a local lake, as I wanted to show him the one hillthing we have around here: there is an artificial ski piste on it, can’t be THAT small, right ? Tho we couldn’t find it at first, was hidden behind some trees :-p
Didn’t do much more that day, didn’t feel too great in the evening again.

Hmm, just great !!! I’m developing this huge cold/flu thing, in the middle of summer and when my love is over, and when I need to stay healthy to make the embryos feel at home. Slept a lot, helped my father-in-law a bit who came to trim our huge hedge, but nothing more. I feel so sorry for Glod… I currently feel like a genuine snotling… Glad I’m not green tho :-p
At night we went for a game of Chtulhu, was hilarious again ! Used tons of tissues tho, and developed a headache. Was completely beat by the time we got home again.
Glod won’t let me drive to Paris the next day, it’s too long a drive when I’m ill. Guess he’s right :-((((

More snot, more illness. I HATE it ! We got to clean the car, so at least that’s done. Didn’t do much more tho, since I preferred lying on the couch feeling rotten most of the day.

Slept long, and at noon Peter, our beloved friend from Den Haag arrived :-))) We sat outside in the garden for quite a while in the afternoon, just chilling, then went for groceries and especially more Coke. Plan was to go out at night to the first day of the Gentse Feesten with the Tolkien Society, all dressed up as characters from Lord of the Rings, handing out flyers for the Storytelling. No such luck: it started to pour !
I had the feeling it might get dry again later on, so I took my costume in the car, and we went to Faust. Needed to pick up my new spikey collar he made for me, as a gift ! 🙂 He and Jurryt were leaving for Prague next day, so I definitely wanted to see him before he left. Was a fun evening ! Man, we laughed a lot ! The guys decided to dub me a Chaos Hobbit ! Chaos cos of the spikes, Hobbit cos I’m small and have the costume… Was really fun !
Then, since sun was shining again, we went for the party zone, without costumes tho since the wussies of the society all thought it was too wet 🙁
We managed to walk a lot, talk a lot, find some food, listen to some music, I met quite some friends, and we generally had good fun. Was exhausted by the cold by the time we got home, which wasn’t too late, being 1.30 AM or so.

Peter had to leave at 11, so I woke Glod as well and we said goodbye… Since Glod wasn’t awake yet, he went back to bed, I did some administration, went to see him, snuggled up to him, and fell asleep too :-p Woke up only at 3 pm !
We did bits of nothing, I cooked, and at 8 we were at the Tolkien Society HQ to meet Randall and the others. I dressed up as a Hobbit, Glod was a very impressive Nazgûl ! Gonna ask him to post the pic we took.
We walked around in the party zone, handing out flyers, scaring people, having fun and sore feet. Managed to make it for the fire spectacle at 11. Was good, not too great, but good. Went back into the heart of the party, had a drink (or two/three/four) and then headed home, since I was beat (damn cold!) and had to do storytelling next day.

Got up pretty late again, found some food in the party zone, went to the Trollenkelder, got dressed up as my Hobbit again for the storytelling. Glad my voice was pretty allright, and I didn’t sound too nasal anymore. Second part tho, I had to cut in half cos I started to cough. Grrr !!! Storytelling was allright tho.
Then Glod and I wandered around town (different atmosphere in the party zone during the day, lots of people still tho), I bought myself a ring, and tried to found one for him. No such luck so far tho. He’s both too picky and too broadfingered.
We headed back home round 6 pm, got some food, and watched some telly, as I was beat again. I HATE colds ! Glod was feeling very blah tho, didn’t feel like doing anything: no PC games, no TV, no Gentse Feesten, no reading, no nothing 🙁
Later on, as I tucked him in, he told me that it was because Thursday was getting closer, and then he has to leave again 🙁 I know, sweety, I know 🙁

Being today… Got up round 10, Glod is still sleeping, I still have a headache because of the cold. No Paris, I’m afraid :-(((
Need to get an injection later on today, and then we’ll prolly meet up with my mom and walk around the party zone again. See some street theatre or Puppetbuskers. Yep yep 🙂
Still need to do homework tho: storytelling again tomorrow, gonna tell the story of Beren and Luthien from the Silmarillion, still need to read it tho. Weather doesn’t look too great now.

Hmm, I’d better go shower, and get dressed, no ?

Hmm, didn’t do a real update for a while, and it’s not like anyone will be really interested anyway, but hey…
Spent my first week and a half of my vacation running from one spot to another, performing one task after another. Weather’s not been that good, so why not ? Still ever so busy these days.
On friday Bart started his first day at his new job, leaving him pretty exhausted. He had promised to cook in the evening for Faust and Jurryt, but since he felt all empty, I decided to cook us all a Thai/Chinese meal. Bit of chopping, but all worked out fine. Was a good night, I daresay.
Had a wonderful evening on saturday with Gwen and Erik, two of my fellow college students who have been my best friends ever since. Bart and I were invited to go out for Thai food for her birthday, so we said hi to their little boy Leander and left for a nice meal indeed. Ended up in the Opatuur, a jazz cafe here in Gent. They truly are my best friends, apart from Faust then.
On monday I went out at night to one of my former students, she just finished her first year at college as a Civil Engineer Architecture. As it was a nice and warm evening, we went into town, bought ourselves a huge ice cream cone and sat on the banks of the river that runs thru the city, surrounded by very old and pretty houses, the medieval castle, some works of art, a lot of people, mostly young and alternative, and a bunch of guitar and violin playing young guys who sat there just for fun and smoking some weed. All this created this special atmosphere that I so appreciate in my hometown. So we sat there and talked, discussed Art Nouveau, the evolution of Classicism, the developments and novelties from Roman architecture into Gothic style, the forces which contain an arch etc etc. Was really interesting ! Then we headed to her place and she taught me some basics of perspective drawing. Had a real Aha-Erlebnis there :-). Was only home at 2.00 AM, in bed by 4 (couldn’t sleep).
Tuesday was pretty busy too, and somehow I felt exhausted by all of it. Pulled a string in my arm too in trying to tame another part of our ferocious hedge. Managed to get away in the afternoon to have coffee with Faust, was nice 🙂
Today I spent the day at an old friend’s house, making another banner for the LARP. Hadn’t seen her for a really long time, so it felt good… Hadn’t even seen her little boy since he was born, and he’s about 1.5 years old now ! Such a shame, he’s sweet.
Anyway, I did manage to do a lot of stuff, all in all. Feels good.

I like going out once in a while still, and then I wear nothing special, just my normal feelgood clothes. I just dance a bit, and I watch the 18year olds, their clothes, their make up, their way of behaving… And I’m so glad I’m no longer part of that, that I don’t need to belong to a scene to have an identity, that I can be proud of who I am, without the consent of my peer group. That I no longer have the need to be accepted by them. I can just stand there, and watch, and enjoy the sight, and not give a damn about what they think of me. If I’m fat, so what ? I like dancing so I dance. I no longer have the need to seduce other people, to attract all eyes.
Oh yes, I love to wear a spikey collar, but just cos I like it. Actually, I really wouldn’t want to be 18 anymore. Not with this peace of mind, this … maturity. Weird ? Maybe… But when you have reached a certain state of mind, you’ll know what I mean.
I can have great fun with 20year olds, since there are a lot of those in my wide circle of friends, but sometimes me and Faust just sit back and listen, and smile. Were we once like them ? As single-tracked, as naive, as zealous, as eager to conquer the world ? Maybe I lost a lot of ideals and gained a lot of hard reality… I don’t think it made me bitter, only a lot richer. It does take a while to realize that tho. Guess I’m just happy the way I am now, and that counts a LOT !

Man I feel lousy !! Hardly slept last night, tossed and turned all night long, and so did Bart. We didn’t eat anything wierd tho, wasn’t our stomach. Grmblll. Bet I look horrible too now. AND it’s still raining outside. My first days of holiday and I’m bored already. So many things to do outside, eg. the sales which I wanted to go to. I just can’t park the car in the city these days, and it’s raining too hard for a bus, cos I HATE damp buses with wet people on it. Grmbl.
Faust ICQd me yesterday afternoon, while I was doing the invoices for our company, and he wanted me to come over for coffee, after he had done some chores in the city. ‘Fine’, I said, ‘lemme know when you’re back, ok ‘? I called him in the evening to ask why he didn’t notify me. ‘Oh’, he said, ‘I thought you’d be coming anyway, I was expecting you.’ Hmm. How was I to know when he was back home ? Moron. Prolly not gonna see him this week now 🙁

Gonna go to a ‘party’ this afternoon: a friend/colleague of mine asked some other colleagues for a drink in her new house, we planned on sitting in the garden. It’s cold and soaking tho, we’ll be sitting all inside having hot cocoa and coffee, I suppose, instead of cool long drinks.

Man I hate it when summer starts like this !

Finished correcting for this year, and even without spending my nights at it ! That must be a real first ! I remember years that I had procrastinated all the work that much, that I spent correcting all day up till 6 AM… Not this time. I’m DONE !!
Another week at school for meetings and deliberations, adn then: two months off ! Yay !!

Me happy camper now !

BTW, today ruled: spent a whole part of it with Pumuky and Samalla, and man, she’s hot !!! And did you know that Pum is a wonderful tuba player ?

Ok, I’ve had bad groups, but this one… Out of 19 first graders, I expected 8 to flunk. Hoped for less, but that was realistic, I thought. NOT ! Only 7 of them made it, which means 12 did not pass for Latin. Am I really such a bad teacher ? This never happened to me before ! Sheez, makes me all depressed ! Those poor kids ! I did show the exam to Xavier, and he said it was not too hard, actually. Hey, first one has 95 %, second has 87 %, heh, last one has 7 %. They just didn’t study. Or are they that stupid ? I refuse to believe that. Man… This sux big time !!!

Hmm, cast quality was below every standard: it just didn’t want to dry. This kind should be dry in about two hours, but although it had been cast at 5 pm, I had to put on a very thick sock to keep it from staining my sheets. Cast was still wet this afternoon, so I went to see the doctor once more and he put on another cast. Foot is hurting too…

For the rest: busy as always, haven’t been in game for over a week now. Exams are coming nearer, and I still have to make them all up. Hmmm. Lots of work still. Can’t say I’m looking forward to it.

On June 12 the carpenter will come to install the new stairway to the second floor of our house. We used to have a gigantic attic, now we’ll get it finally transformed to sth usable. This being a new attic (was like 4-5 meters high), a big room/office for our company (www.netlash.com, working on the English version, Dutch only for the moment), a sauna and a relax room (with our comics collection, a bar for cocktails, stools, comfy chairs…) shower, toilet and a little hall. Not bad, huh ? grimlach already promised me to help a bit putting all the stuff up there. Gonna be quite a change, when Bart will finally have his own space to work and I can do whatever I like down here. I’m such a chaotic mind: I’m working and doing tons of stuff at the same time, which makes me run around a lot, and gets on his nerves. It will be better…

BTW, gonna start IVF again at the end of this month. Third time, good time ? Dunno…

Had a very weird day yesterday, nothing seemed to go the way it should. For example, I got so annoyed that in the one school the classroom hadn’t been cleaned for months, that when one of my papers stuck to the table, I had enough of it and went, pretty angrily, to look for some cleaning material.
The corridors, tho not that clean either, are pretty slippery, so there I slipped with my heel, and sprained my ankle. Didn’t think it that bad, but went to the doctor anyway for insurance matters. He put a kind of a cast around it. Hmmm. Nice… Oh well.
I can still walk, tho Bart calls me Humpty Dumpty right now. Wonder what the students will say

Had this wonderful larp this weekend. The weather gods favoured us, since there was rain announced, but somehow we managed to avoid the showers there.
Had to play the beggar’s queen of a complete gang of beggars, was hilarious… Those poor players didn’t know what hit them: organised beggar crime ! Their leader was a real tyrant, blackmailing her own people, threatening them, organising them too. Black market, thieving, anything. Man, this was so typecasted !
At least as hilarious was the short part I got as Sister Almonella, the cooking nurse. She walked around waving herbs, had to explain the most crazy stuff. Was nice.
Had the most fun tho with the sunday morning part as noble lady, daughter of a duke, very naive but very haughty and rather pregnant, tho she didn’t know that at first. Poor doctor (player) who examined her: she fainted, squealed, sighed, and agreed to use abortion herbs since her father would kill her if he ever found out. Had to ‘ask’ the other nobility around for money, loads of them, since the herbs were very expensive. Explained to them the techniques of Heraldism too, improvised there for over half an hour about heraldic signs and colours and specifications, without (out game) knowing the least about it. Big fun !

Very tired now and a working day ahead, but happy again. Had good fun. Liked it a lot !

BTW, I love my Bart, my Les and Faust! Heh. Lucky me !
